Specializace
I have experiences both in marine and fresh water ecology. However, I am not specialized in any particular field right now but trying to learn more on fish ecology and their behavior study. My interest is mostly on how the temperature will have influence on fish behavior specifically on top predatory fishes in lakes and reserviors of Czech Republic. I am also involved in fish tagging and telemetry research.
Over the past decade, institute of hydrobiology has performed experiments and surveys for more than 20 different lakes and reserviors in Czech Republic and other European countries. Results from these long-term studies showed that the population of apex predatory fish play a key role in maintaining community balance, performing top-down control system and stabilizing ecosystem functioning in these lakes. My task is to understand how these fishes behave in their natural environment when the water temperature rises? where do they migrate? how big they can grow? and what measures need to consider protecting these fishes from getting locally extict?
We also use acoustic high resolution telemetry system to trace an individual fish with precies spatial and temporal location. Merging this information with the environmental data, we could provide answers to various questions that remained unanswered through convential sampling procedures. For instances, we know their home range, territoriality, spawning and feeding grounds etc., Such evidences are vital to declare protected area zones where the commercial fishing is prohibited.
